LARVAL SETTLEMENT OF STALKED BARNACLES Pollicipes pollicipes

Stalked barnacles of the genus Pollicipes attain high market prices in Portugal and Spain and in recent years interest has increased in the sustainable aquaculture this species. However, in spite of research efforts, much remains unknown; particularlyregarding larval settlement requirements. In the present paper, the settlement of P. pollicipes was investigated using different substrata, various settlement conditions and settlement induction by barnacle extract.
