摘要

Contrary to global growing trends, aquaculture production in Baltic Sea Region (BSR) has slightly declined during the last decade, in spite of favourable natural conditions and generally good market situation. For this reason a project for aquaculturedevelopment was included in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. For a start the project assessed stakeholder attitudes towards aquaculture in the BSR. A questionnaire was carried out in native language in all EU member states of the BSR. The results showed that the global role of growing aquaculture as an eco-efncient primary food production was rather unanimously accepted. In the BSR context the environmental stakeholders were slightly concerned on environmental constraints of the industry. In all target countries the heavy and complex legal regulation framework was considered to be a crucial barrier of aquaculture development.
