CLUSTERS AND CONNECTIONS: IMPROVING ADOPTION OF BETTER MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN SRI LANKA'S AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY

Better Management Practices (BMPs) programs to improve sustainability and productivity of aquaculture have been used extensively in over the past 20 years in the aquaculture industry. Yet, as in much of agriculture, there remains a significant adoption gap of BMPs by farmers in many sectors of the aquaculture industry and in many countries. We found this to be the case in Sri Lanka's shrimp farming industry. Our objective was to determine the factors affecting this situation and develop strategies toimprove adoption of BMPs.
