Large advances in the field of genomic during the last decades (also called "Age of genomic") have enabled the development of a wide number of genetic and molecular tools, as well as a better understanding of genome structure and function. A reflection of the importance of these advances is the annotation of numerous candidate genes of known functions in nonmodel species, allowing us to carry out more direct associations between genetic variation and physiological functions. The present work belongsto larger study aimed to identify single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers associated with growth traits in gilthead sea bream (Spams aurata L.) In this first phase, we focused on SNP detection in four growth candidate genes: GH (growth hormone), PRL(prolactin), MYOD1 and MYOD2 (myogenic differentiation 1 and 2, respectively).
