A Novel Evaluation Method for the Reliability of HVDC Transmission System

High voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system is playing an increasingly important role in China. In order to evaluate the reliability of HVDC transmission system, a novel method to quantitatively calculate the reliability of HVDC transmission system by using state-space method is proposed. Finally, on the basis of the indices of energy utilization and energy availability rate, the operation utilization rate is proposed. The traditional reliability data and the energy utilization rate of the practical HVDC systems are analyzed by the proposed method. The method and index take the technical characteristics and operation schemes of HVDC systems into consideration, which can provide more reliability assessment information and practical reference for the constructions and management of HVDC system.
