The Ecological Value of Yao-Dong and Potential for Development

摘要

This paper tries to explore the ecological value and development potential of Yao-Dong from two parts: characteristics of the immature soil (Yao-Dong's main building materials) and ecological advantages of Yao-Dong. Organic integrity as basic starting point of the ecological architecture has been widely recognized. The architecture should first be examined in its ecological environment, and the architects should realize the meaning of human life and development by maintaining balance of ecological system. Chinese Yao-Dong is directly created out of natural soil layer of Loess Plateau. So out of nature, with nature, it is a typical example of harmony between man and nature, having great significance on the development of ecological architecture.
