摘要

Information regarding the technology that went into the making of ancient archaeological ceramics can be used as an index of sophistication achieved by ancient civilizations. The phase transformations that occur in clays during dehydroxylation can be studied using infrared spectroscopy and it can be extended to determine the firing temperatures of ancient ceramic wares. The ratio of iron containing minerals can give clues regarding firing techniques employed.
