@@1. Introduction Phanerochaete sordida has been mostly applied in a variety of industrial processes according to its ligninolytic enzyme activity. The fungus distributes worldwide as well as it is known to colonize typically fallen branches of hardwood trees and occasionally on softwood. However, P. sordida, one of the most common corticioid fungi, represents a species complex of genetically different taxa in several studies. Recently, a number of P. sordida species isolates have been obtained from various wood products in playgrounds in service or from logs of pine and larch exposed at forestry land in Korea. Therefore, the objective of this study was to infer the phylogeny of P. sordida species isolates and to determine if the species is monophyletic using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA region sequences, in addition, chemical properties such as ligninolytic enzyme activity and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PA Hs) degradation were examined to enhance the classification of P. sordida species.
