Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were chemically functionalized with various functional groups which are carboxyl, acyl chloride and thiol groups.. The functional groups were confirmed by FT-IR. The functionalized SWNTs were immobilized onto modified templates through a covalent bonding. This technique is based on the spontaneous adsorption of the functional group of SWNTs onto chemically modified template. The attached SWNTs with different functional groups showed different reactivity on modified templates in the same reaction condition. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) results have shown that the functionalized SWNTs have a different reactivity. Moreover, we investigated the selective attachment of SWNTs with on chemically functionalized silicon oxide nanostructure which was fabricated by AFM anodization lithography.
