This study has developed an AIM/Enduse model for Indonesia to examine the role of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and renewable energy to mitigate CO{sub}2 emission in the Indonesian power sector. An environmental policy, i.e., CO{sub}2 emission reduction target, is introduced in this study to influence the adoption of the technologies. The results show that the shares of electricity generation from coal based power plants are maintained the highest at CO{sub}2 emission reduction target of 30% (ER_30) as those at Base case. The use of CCS in coal- and natural gas-based power plants to mitigate CO{sub}2 emissions would be significant at ER_30. Biomass- and wind-based power plants also show a significant contribution to mitigate CO{sub}2 emissions at ER_30. However, some of the promising options such as solar energy and hydrogen based fuel cell for electricity generation are not found to be cost-effective even under ER target of 30%.
