Problems encountered by Sudbury seniors when trying to cope with winter were studied by means of the Social Information Generation technique (Wilson, 1981) administered to ten groups including extendicare residents, and seniors of Finnish, Croatian, Ukranian, Francophone and mixed backgrounds. Findings were classified under several topics including snow clearance, attitude towards winter, winter activity, indoor activities, problems with waiting for and getting on buses and automobile issues. Specific recommendations for improving Sudbury as a winter city for seniors were made including the possibility of selective snow clearing at some bus stops near seniors residences.
