The FAA Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) will augment GPS to enable the service provided by the combined GPS and WAAS systems to support safety critical aviation navigation requirements. The WAAS is being developed by Raytheon Systems Corporation under contract to the FAA. On 16 September 2002 WAAS completed a 60 day stability test. This test was the final major test prior to the anticipated FAA acceptance of the WAAS from Raytheon near the end of January 2003. During that testing, the WAAS Test Team at the DOT/FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey independently monitored the performance of the WAAS system using receiver measurement data from the FAA National Satellite Test Bed (NSTB) and receiver measurement data from the WAAS reference stations (WRS). This paper presents a summary of the WAAS performance observed by the FAA Technical Center during the 60 day test. In addition, flight test performance data from flights during and shortly after the 60 day test is also presented.
