The transmission of short optical pulses at 10 or 40 Gb/s and above over optical fiber links broadens the pulses due to chromatic dispersion in the fiber. Dispersion management has been widely employed in order to minimize the broadening in Ion-haul transmission systems. A proper design of the dispersion maps requires however the knowledge of the chirp of the dam signals to be transmitted.
