摘要

The 2 1 HDi diesel engine launched by the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group at the end of 1998 was the first in a new generation of engines. Featuring breakthrough technology, the new engines have enjoyed considerable commercial success. The new 2.2 1 HDi engine launched at the beginning of 2000 on the 607 and now also available on the Citroen C5 is the flagship model in this new family of engines. Encompassing several new technologies : 1. 4 valves per cylinder with variable swirl 2. Common Rail injection system 3. variable nozzle turbocharger 4. balancing shaft 5. particulate filter, its advanced technical design offers consistently high levels of performance, notably in the following areas: 1. performance and driving pleasure 2. fuel consumption 3. acoustics 4. pollutant emissions. The innovative particulate filter does away with particulate emissions and black smoke. With the introduction of these new technologies, the image of diesel has improved considerably and can be expected to improve still further with the necessary progress to be made in the quality of diesel fuel. The diesel engine has clearly showed itself to be the most promising solution offering the greatest potential for progress since it is more efficient by nature than a classical petrol engine on condition that the Diesel fuel is of good quality.
