The article presents the concept of using graph theory to describe the infrastructure of the signalling system, in accordance with the assumptions of the MAP-WP design automation method. The principles of formalization of the system structure based on TU and TS graphs describing the structure of the track system division into areas controlled by internal signalling device sets and the structure of external connections between internal signalling device sets are presented. The MAP-WP method generates many variants of the system structure depending on the number of controlled areas, network topology, location of the control room relative to the station track system, and then selects a variant that meets the requirements for the availability and reliability of the structure. Confirmation that the structure meets specific requirements is possible thanks to the analysis of edge and tip coherence of the TU and TS graphs representing it.
