The influence of fuel composition and sound frequency on the acoustic excitation phenomenon of a jet diffusion flame is investigated.I'he used fuel is a mixture of hydrogen and methane.The average molecular weight is varied from 4.0 to 16.0 g/mol,while the Reynolds number is kept constant at 1600.The frequency of the applied sound is varied between 1 kHz and 15 kHz.The intensity of the acoustic excitation effect is evaluated by the flame height ratio and the visible appearance of the flame.It is found that the flame of pure methane exhibits bifurcation at 7 kHz but the addition of just a small amount of hydrogen drastically diminishes the effect.Further addition or hydrogen,however,increases the effect again.At lower average molecular weights,the effect is more pronounced under higher frequency conditions.
