Cultivated persimmons (Diospyros kaki L.) in Indonesia belong to an astringent type. The fruit and leaf of persimmon have high antioxidant activity that beneficial for human health. The regeneration of this species became crucial because of the beneficial value. Micropropagation was selected for persimmon regeneration to overcome the difficulties of conventional propagation. The aim of this research was to determine appropriate NaOCl concentration for micropropagation of certain persimmon genotype in Indonesia. Lateral shoots derived from mature persimmon tree were used for this research. The result showed that the highest survived explants could be obtained by NaOCl 3% for 4 min. This treatment also successfully induced leaves within 28 days after initiation. The optimal concentration of the sterilizing agent contributes an important role for micropropagation establishment.
