Effect of Malaria Infection to Ovary's Oxidative Stress in Mus musculus

Malaria is an infectious disease because of Plasmodium Sp. and contagious by Anopheles mosquito. Prevalence of malaria in Indonesia was mostly found in age >15 years old with 10,8%. That age category is included in reproductive age. Atikoh's research (2015) showed that malaria was founded in female more than in the male. Complications of malaria can destroy many organs, such as ovary. Abnormality of reproductive organs because of malaria especially in female as the majority of cases have not been found yet. Design of this research was true experimental with post test only with control group design. The number of Mus musculus was 18/group. Research groups were control (KO) and malaria infection group (Kl). K1 was made by insertion of P. berghei. In day 4, Mus musculus were terminated and blood and ovaries were taken. The variables were the weight of ovaries, serum and ovary MDA level. The results were the weight of ovaries in KO was 26.33 grams and K1 was 19.22 grams, and the p-value was 0.460. Ovary MDA level was 0.788 ng/ml in KO and 0.436 ng/ml in Kl, with p-value, was 0.022. Serum MDA level was 1.167 ng/ml in KO and 1.047 ng/ml in Kl, with p-value, was 0.938. The conclusions were there was no significant different of ovaries' weight and serum MDA level but significant different of ovary MDA level.
