Design and Simulation of a DC-DC Converter for Fuel Cell-Based Electric Vehicles with Closed-Loop Operation

Petroleum fuels produce more pollution and environment changes are also happening because of these fuels. Because of all these reasons, the whole world is concentrating on renewable energy sources. In that point of view, more research is going on fuel cell vehicles. These vehicles run with hydrogen gas rather than any foreign oil and with no harmful emission. But the output voltage of fuel cell is low. It is necessary to increase the output voltage of fuel cell to run an electric vehicle. This paper contains design and simulation of DC-DC boost converter with closed-loop operation. In this converter, DC voltage is converted with high voltage gain. The working principle of this converter is based on ZVS and ZCS switching methods. In the closed-loop operation, PID controller is used for getting better results. The simulation of this DC-DC to converter is done by using PSIM 9.0.4 software. Finally, the simulation results are discussed.
