Venturi Injection for Pulp and Paper Mills

Venturi aeration systems are being installed at pulp and paper mills for a variety of reasons.One common application is to combat anaerobic conditions in a mill's process water system. By aerating/mixing Whitewater chests and other storage tanks inside a mill,problematic anaerobic byproducts can be avoided-specifically,Volatile Fatty Acids(VFA)which can be retained in the final product and surface later as a rotten odor. Other byproducts,such as hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen gas,can present a grave explosion risk if they are allowed to accumulate in a system.After installing a venturi aeration system at one mill,VFA compounds were reduced from l,600mg/l(Acetic),600mg/l(Propionic),and 400mg/l(Butyric)down to 590mg/l,30mg/l,and 15mg/l respectively.At mills,Venturis are also being utilized in wastewater treatment processes in a variety of capacities ranging from in-basin aeration for BOD reduction to in-line post treatment oxygenation,and in some cases,concentrated oxygen injection. Regardless of the application,Venturis provide a low maintenance solution to help mill personnel produce a higher quality product,ensure a safe working environment,and reduce operational costs associated with wastewater treatment.
