Simulation technology has been potential method in optimum design of agricultural equipment Especially, simulating the process of maize seed metering device based on EDEM is proved to be efficient for evaluating its working performance. It was detected in the experiment that the position of seed gravity center had significant influence on the simulating results, but it was always neglectful in the existing research. The traditional modeling method only established a three-dimensional model based on the shape characteristics of maize seed, this modeling approach does not take into account the effects of various components of maize seed on the position of the center of gravity. In this paper, a three-dimensional model of maize seed was established byusing slice modeling technology. This model considered the effect of maize seed embryo, endosperm and seed coat on the position of maize center of gravity. This paper aims to study the influence of gravity center position of maize seed on the performanceof metering device by simulating the seeding process of two maize seed models in metering device, and compared with the actual working results. The qualified seeding, reseeding and miss-seeding index was selected as the evaluating indictors. The resultsshowed that: under the traditional modeling conditions, the error of qualified seeding, reseeding and miss-seeding index, were respectively 1.32%, 28.74%, and 34.91%; under the condition of gravity center modeling, the error of qualified seeding, reseeding and miss-seeding index, were respectively 0.45%, 6.63%, and 7.97%; The simulation accuracy is improved under the condition of gravity center modeling, which provides theoretical guidance for simulation modeling.
