This paper presents a method for predicting the crenulate-shaped shoreline, which is accomplished using a CERC formula on longshore sediment transport based on the distribution of annual wave directions. A simple formula is applied for the wave diffraction behind the structure. The proposed method shows a good agreement with Hsu’s formula for impermeable breakwater and with laboratory observations for the permeable detached breakwater.
