Corrosion Rate of Low Carbon Steel in Simulated Feed Water for Heat Exchanger in Ammonia Plant

The problem of corrosion were common phenomena in heat exchanger. The quality of feed water and material was one of the causes of corrosion. Carbon steel was commonly used as tube heat exchanger in ammonia plant. Low carbon steel was immersed in simulated feed water to determine the corrosion rate. Water quality parameter such as Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), conductivity, salinity, and pH were measured. It is found that the corrosion rate was increase for the first week and increase in 3 weeks, then decrease for the next week. Corrosion resistance of low carbon steel was influenced by DO, TDS, and conductivity. And the morphology of the corroded low carbon steel tended to be uniform after exposure in simulated feed water.
