Substitution of the essential part technology of the internal combustion engine results in a new and complex situation for the commercial vehicle industry. For the near future, two scenarios are conceivable: evolution and disruption, where disruption is driven by political preferences not by technology or economics. To cope with this upheaval, suppliers above all need a future competence which goes beyond working with trends and the proven strategies of closeness to the customer. With the awareness of the individual strengths of the company, entry into other industries or setting up manufacturing capabilities, for example, could be suitable strategic responses.
