The BMW Group, in collaboration with the machinery equipment manufacturer Ludwig Schleicher GmbH, has developed a concept for adhesive application for the lamination of instrument panels in a process suitable for high-volume production. The trigger for this is the increasing customer desire - and increasing lately too in the medium- and compact-class segment - for a high-quality vehicle interior appealing both to the eye and the touch, which in this form is only realizable through lamination with high-grade materials such as leather and leatherette. This rising demand necessarily means higher production quantities, which is only achievable through further development of the current lamination processes and especially the preceding adhesive application as well. This process has developed from a nonreproducible, manually sprayed application to become a highly automated process with a short cycle time.
