Advances in lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced polypropylene solutions for visible automotive applications

摘要

The development and volume production of a short carbon-fiber-reinforced polypropylene with extreme stiffness and ultra-weight savings, and processing this novel material to produce a Class A painted carbon-fiber thermoplastic body panel, presented challenges to both the Borealis and Magna Exteriors innovation teams. Global collaboration, the geographical proximity of innovation centers, and visible and shared objectives enabled the completion of this project phase in a relatively short time.
