Future Therapies for Small Animal Oncology: New Targets, New Techniques

The diverse expanse of specialized oncology therapeutics on the horizon for dogs and cats makes remaining current on the latest advances and technologies challenging. Immunotherapeutics are leading the way in human oncology treatment development and this trend is holding true in veterinary oncology as well. This session reviews the regulatory status, science, available supporting data and clinical use of several new canine and feline cancer immunotherapeutics, including gene therapy options. Additional focus will be placed on the science and clinical applicability of new patient supportive therapeutics including appetite stimulants and pain management options. Therapeutics currently commercially available to veterinarians in the U.S., regulated by either the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or Unites States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and, are summarized in Table 1.
