Radar have become a key sensor to support OEMs in developing automated vehicles. High available as tolerant and robust within wide range of light and of weather conditions, Radar allowed Tierls and OEMs to implement Driver Assistance functions that rapidly got high customer acceptance because of their robustness and their efficiency in avoiding or mitigating accidents. Several insurance companies have published data showing the benefits of driver assistance systems. Based on this, some of them even decided to give incentive when buying vehicles with specific driver assistance system. Latest data are showing that combining multiple sensors like camera and Radar allows faster decision. Infineon, the world leader in 77GHz MMICs, used its expertise in auto motive Radar to develop a family of Radar processors. To address the new challenges and requirements for auto motive Radar. Infineon designed a family of Radar processors; this family is designed as extension of the well-established AURIX microcontroller family and as such, it is inheriting key properties in functional safety, security, computing performance and in car network interfaces.
