OSP's in combination with Group II plus, Group III (MO) and Group III (GTL) can provide friction reduction that should translate into fuel economy improvement. The majority of friction reduction is observed in boundary and mixed lubrication regime of formulated oil. Hence additive package is critical for performance. The anti wear performance is not compromised with inclusion of OSP. OSP containing formulations demonstrate fuel economy, deposit control and also meets the ACEA and OEM specifications. OSP's work synergistically with certain sulfur containing additives. This can provide a varnish free operation for a longer duration, lower wear and lower friction coefficients which should also translate to energy efficiency. Top treating existing commercial gear oil with OSP also demonstrates improved EP loads, lower wear and lower friction coefficients. Since OSP work synergistically with sulfur/phosphate containing additives, the formulations have to be developed with the right combination of EP/AW additives and corrosion inhibitors.
