This paper presents how to integrate Sliding Mode Control (SMC) in speed loop to improve speed and torque performance for Direct Torque Control (DTC) of doubly fed induction motor. Numerical simulation results are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink to illustrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the SMC. The results of the DTC-SMC show good performance compared to the conventional DTC-Integral-Proportional (IP) with no overshoot, without steady state error and with very fast torque response.
