Session Goal: Expand the discussion surrounding the interaction between VRUs of all types and AV systems: (1) Particularly exploring considerations related to mobility and equity. 2. Research Talks: (1) Azra Habibovic, Pravin Varaiya, Fred Feng, Tabitha Combs; (2) Presented recent research on ways that AVS and/or drivers currently interact with VRUs, as well as an overview of the equity-related challenges that will be faced as we transition to AVs. 3. Panel Discussion: The role of Equity Considerations in AV/VRU Interactions: (1) Moderator: Mohammed Yousuf; (2) Panelists: Bernard Soriano, Ryan Snyder, Robert Wall Emerson, Sarah McCullough; (3) Examined the many ways that equity considerations come into play with AVS deployment, ways to engage communities to fairly distribute benefits & risks.
