Industry Challenge:The attacks on US infrastructure 9/11/2001 heightened awareness of the possibility of attacks exploiting weaknesses in the cybersecurity of control systems.What was the environment like in the year 2001:1.No standardized way to describe cybersecurity for automation and control systems 2.Lack of trained expertise at both suppliers and owner/operator sites 3.Non-existent or poorly constructed cybersecurity in deployed automation and control systems.4.No basis for objectively assessing and measuring the security posture of people,process and technology in automation and control systems.In 2019,our understanding of cybersecurity is better and we now have ISA/lEC 62443 standards for automation and control systems cybersecurity.
