Ability of Best Management Practices to Reduce Preservative Migration from ACQ- or CA-Treated Southern Pine or Spruce-Pine-Fir

The potential for reducing metal migration using Best Management Practices (BMPs) was investigated on alkaline copper quaternary- and alkaline copper azole-treated southern pine and spruce-pine-fir lumber. All of the processes that involved heating were associated with lower metal migration than the non-BMP processed controls except for a one-hour steam period Longer steaming was associated with lower metal losses. The results illustrate the benefits of BMPs for reducing the risk of metal migration from treated wood.
