Child Marriage in the 21~(st) Century: Sentiment And Semantic Analysis Via Social Media Intelligence

Despite the advancement of digital technology and the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the practice of marrying off underage girls still exists in many parts of the world. It is a customary or statutory union where one or both of the partners are under the age of 18. The main objective of this article is to explore the practice of child marriage through social media intelligence method in order to measure its trend in this era. This article also analyses the sentiment and semantic of discussions related to this practice in social media and internet in general. This study employs both qualitative as well as quantitative research methods. The data related to child marriage was extracted by using Trackur tracking application. The findings of the study reveal that there are more negative sentiments on this practice especially on the call to ban and eliminate child marriage practices all over the world. The study also found that the two main factors of child marriage practices are hegemonic masculinity interpretation of religion and tradition as well as poverty.
