Adopting Sustainability as the Guiding Principle in Prioritizing RD Projects at a Water Utility

Water utilities play a very important role in creating a sustainable future, as they manage a resource that forms the basis of life on earth. The decisions made by these utilities can and will have both positive and negative consequences that are more fare-reaching than classical financially focused business models suggest. In VCS Denmark, a decision support tool inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as work on planetary boundaries has been developed and implemented to help prioritize projects at this water utility.
