The Analysis of Student's Verbal Communication Skills by Gender in the Middle School in South Tangerang

Communication skills are very necessary in the world of work as it is one of the 21~(st)-century skills that must be empowered in learning. This study aimed to determine the profile of learners' verbal communication skills in real terms both vocal and non-vocal communication by gender. The subjects in this study were 186 students, consisted of 88 male and 98 female students in details. The method used in this research was descriptive-quantitative research method. The research instrument used was an observation sheet. The data obtained were then analyzed quantitatively so that the value of the students' communication skills was obtained properly. The results of the study had found that there were differences in the mean values of male and female communication skills. Each of them got an average score of 1.14 and 1.17, but both are still in the D category of value. The value of the students' verbal communication skills was still relatively low with a value of 1.17, interpreted as D category. The results were far below government standards as regulated in the Minister of Education and Culture No. 104 of 2014 which is equal to 2.67 (B-). Further study is needed to improve training in students' verbal communication skills in learning.
