The number of investments and researches in the field of solar energy has increased a lot in the last decade. Therefore, it is extremely important to create a proper model of the photovoltaic system so that such model can be used in the future for simulations that emulate the real operation of the power system. In this way, the behavior of the photovoltaic system connected to the distribution network can be analyzed. There are a lot of methods to estimate the parameters of the model. However, due to model complexity, the determination of relevant parameters of the model with accuracy is not an easy task. This problem of the accuracy of the results has also been indicated in other works, as was verified in the bibliographical review carried out for the construction of this article. This paper intends to present a heuristic method based on the mean and the variance of population to estimate the parameters of a photovoltaic system. The algorithm that was developed has high convergence speed and robustness in relation to uncertainties in parameters. The method was applyied to estimate parameter of “single enhanced diode” model with measures obtained from a simulated test system in MATLAB. Many cases was tested to test the robustness of the method.
