The paper depicted the Preferential Admission Policies (PAPs) in Yunnan, China as a theme in this research project with a purpose of better understanding on Yunnan ethnic minority EFL university students" perceptions of PAPs after so many years of implementation in certain social and political background of China. A qualitative research method was adopted for an investigation through interviews and documentations in Yunnan Province. Four groups of populations were taken as samples in this study. The results of the investigation revealed five facets of PAPs including both positive and negative effects on ethnic minorities. These findings have led to the conclusion that PAPs are still to need at present stage to help ethnic minority students achieve education equality in Yunnan, China.
