Intake Fraction (iF) Assessment in an Urban Area

Air pollution models are often used to estimate population exposures and to support emission abatement strategy. The intake fraction (iF) approach can be applied for evaluating the environmental benefits of reducing emissions, especially when rapid decisions are needed. Intake fraction is a metric that represents emission-to-intake relationship and characterizes exposure potential attributed to specific emission sources. It is a key information when emission abatement policy is considered. In this study, the spatial variability of iF in Warsaw agglomeration, Poland, is discussed. It uses an earlier air quality assessment based on CALPUFF modeling results. The emission field comprises pointwise (industry), areal (housing), and line (transport) sources.
