Synthesis of ZnO and ZnO/Pt by Pt variation (1%, 2% and 3%) was carried out by hydrothermal method at 140°C for 6 h. The samples were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) and UV-Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), to study the crystal structure, crystallite size, surface morphology, chemical composition and optical properties of samples. The Results of SEM showed that the morphology of samples were hexagonal. The results of XRD showed that ZnO, ZnO/Pt 1%, ZnO/Pt 2% and ZnO/Pt 3% had hexagonal wurtzite structure with the crystallite size about 57.6 nm; 44.2 nm; 48.0 nm and 46.4 nm. The energy gap decreases as 3.50 eV; 3.30 eV; 3.25 eV and 3.10 eV with the increase ofPt. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by photodegradation of Methylene Blue (MB) under the UV and visible light irradiation. The result of photodegradation after 2.5 h under visible light irradiation is more effective than 10 h of UV irradiation.
