INTEGRATIVE APPROACH TO PAIN MANAGEMENT IN ORTHOPEDIC TRAUMAPATIENTS

When discussing orthopedic trauma, it is hard not to consider an individualized pain management. The presence of pain has been shown in numerous studies to have deleterious effects on a patient's healing and overall recovery. Undertreated pain has been suggested to be a potential factor in the development of ongoing chronic pain in people that have experienced a traumatic orthopedic injury. Pain due to this type of trauma can be complex and involve acute nociceptive input as well as potential peripheral and central sensitization.
