It has been 25 years now since the first printed patterns for investment castings were introduced. Those were QuickCast patterns, developed by 3D Systems. Since then several other technologies for printing investment casting patterns have been developed. The use of additive manufacturing for creating investment casting patterns is arguably one of the most successful AM applications. Printed patterns have become the standard method for creating prototype castings and are used by more than 98% of the investment foundries in North America.
