The micro-aeration enhanced ecological floating bed (MAEEFB) was developed by adding artificial medium and micro-aeration system in the basis of the traditional ecological floating bed (TEFB). The MAEEFB consisted of micro-aeration unit, artificial medium unit and aquatic plant unit, while the enhanced ecological floating bed (EEFB) only was equipped with artificial medium and aquatic plant unit. The degradation of total nitrogen (TN) and ammonia nitrogen (NH_3-N) in three different kinds of ecological floating beds (EFBs) was investigated, and the removal effciency was as follows: MAEEFB>EEFB>TEFB. The effects of aeration instensity and different artificial mediums were also evaluated. The results showed that the removal effciency of TN and NH_3-N were both the highest in MAEEFB when the aeration intensity was 7.5 L min~(-1). Excessive aeration intensity would weaken the removal efficiency of TN and NH_3-N in MAEEFB. The removal efficiency of TN and NH_3-N was both the best by MAEEFB with combined packing.
