Success is heavily dependent upon basing decision-making on robust evidence. Surgery should not proceed without prior oral and imaging examinations. Minimally invasive techniques may not be appropriate in all cases of sinus disease.The term "minimally invasive" has become somewhat of a buzz-word in surgery over the last 20 to 30 years. There is good evidence that the use of these techniques has resulted in lower patient morbidity, shorter hospitalization and rehabilitation times with concurrent lower costs. That said, there is a steep learning curve, both in terms of making the decision to use a minimally-invasive procedure over a traditional approach, and the skill-set needed to perform the surgery.
