Feline Neurology in Practice

Cats are seen much less frequently than dogs with neurologic diseases in clinical practice. One reason for this discrepancy is the nature of the diseases affecting cats compared with dogs. Two of the most common neurologic diseases treated in dogs areintervertebral disc extrusions and epilepsy. These diseases are much less common in cats comparatively. Another reason may be cost associated with diagnosis and treatment of neurologic diseases in cats. Consequently, neurologic diseases in cats often are not discussed as often as neurologic diseases in dogs. We will discuss pitfalls and unique aspects of neurologic examinations in cats compared with dogs and some of the more common neurologic diseases encountered in cats.
