Terahertz Functional Devices Based on the Metamaterials of Artificial Structures

The terahertz (THz) functional devices based on the metamaterial of artificial structures are presented. The unit structures of metamaterials are designed and analyzed by using of the simulation software of 3D electromagnetic field. THz polarizer, THz attenutor, and THz filter based on these artificially designed metamaterials are demonstrated and analyzed, respectively. The results show that the terahertz functional devices based on the metamaterials have a potential application instead of the traditional components. More importantly, this kind of device is designable and manufactured easily. It is possible to develop the various function of terahertz components lacked currently.
