Sandwich panels consisting of thin metal sheets and a closed-cell structure polyurethane foam core are considered in the paper. The problem of the influence of two main factors on the response of modeled plate is analyzed, mainly: material model of the PU foam and support conditions of plate. The main attention is focused on applications and limitations of the most commonly used for PU foam isotropic material model, since the foam is definitely an orthotropic material. The orthotropic model of the PU foam is proposed and recommended, alternatively. The results obtained from FE analyses are compared with the experimental results carried out by the authors and proper conclusions are drawn.
