Petroleum refining wastewater is a kind of effluent with complex composition and frequent fluctuation of water quality. For meeting discharging standard upgrade, a pilot anoxic-oxic process was utilized to treat the refining wastewater that had been pre-treated by a dissolved air flotation in this paper. The results indicated that anoxic-oxic process has a better effluent quality, higher nitrogen removal efficiency and more powerful resistance to impact load, and meets the needs of upgrading of the existing biological treatment facilities, compared with conventional activated sludge process. For ultra-high concentration load-shock, a bio-augmentation method with low cost was used successfully.
