Looking at sustainable operations in the mining industry, we can identify three stages from the very beginning to the very long time after the mine closure (mining cycle) [2]: The pre-mining stage or exploration encompasses a rather short period in which the deposit is firstly prospected by geo-physical examinations and then explored by deep drilling. Based on the results of those activities, the decision is taken whether production will be commenced. This first stage sees an environmental impact caused by geo-physical measurements, drilling and intervention into the landscape.
