摘要

The workshop brought together military managers with command and control program responsibilities and scientists engaged in basic and applied artificial intelligence research. In papers in the first section, managers describe their decision-making problems and present requirements for specific Army and Navy systems as well as overviews of the concerns addressed by DARPA's strategic computing and defense programs. In papers from the second session, contracted commercial firms describe near-term systems under development. In the final three sessions, longer-term possibilities of basic research in new computer architectures and software to support distributed problem solving and in automated reasoning to support information fusion and processing under conditions of uncertainty are explored. The presentations stress both the contributions of research projects to advancing science and the likely impact of the research on future systems.
